Today was my first session with
Hee-Jin. I was very interested on what he wanted to work on as the only info
Ms. Kim had given me was that he was trying to get his PhD in English
Literature, a slightly different skill set than my other tutee David. We spent
most of the session going over a needs analysis and discussing what methods had
worked for him so far and the areas he really wanted to pinpoint. Hee-Jin is a
very talented writer and anyone who read his writing would never think he
English was his second language. The area he wanted to focus on was
conversation, specifically clearly answering questions that any future students
of his might have. With this in mind, I told him to e-mail me the paper he was
working on, and I would read it myself and set up a list of questions and we
would do a model Q & A the next time we met.
