Mackenzee TS #13

I found a book that was more appropriate to Jake’s beginner/ level 1, but was still his favorite Paw Patrol theme, for our seventh tutoring session. He was able to read about 75% of the book by himself, with just a little bit of help. Jake was still reading at a very slow pace and would take a couple minutes to sound out words (he thought about the words to himself a lot) so whenever he read himself, the comprehension wasn’t as great as when I would read to him. He did seem less discouraged when he saw words that were more than three letters. Sometimes I would have to remind him to just break them down into smaller parts. He had a hard time when bigger words didn’t break down into smaller words (just sounds) but we got through it together. He was very good at speaking still, and knew words as well as their meanings once we sounded the whole thing out, but he struggled a little bit with reading them, which is why we focused a lot on that.
