Mackenzee TS #12

Jake really seemed to enjoy writing words with similar sounds, so for our sixth session I thought what better book to read than The Cat in the Hat? He said he had the book read to him before, but he had never read it himself. He quickly got exhausted with sounding out each word he didn’t know, so we switched off reading every other page. He did a great job sounding out words on his own and seemed to really like the rhyming aspect of the book. This time I don’t think his comprehension of what the story was about wasn’t as good, but I think it was mainly because he was focused on reading the individual words themselves. After we read the book, I asked him to try to recall some of the new words he read and write them down. He mostly picked words that he already knew (cat/hat), but then when I would suggest some of the new words he read (fish/ hop) he recalled them and was able to sound them out and spell them correctly.
