For our third meeting in the cultural workshop, we talked
about stereotypes and generalizations within each of our cultures. We also
talked about the importance of not clumping everyone from a specific culture
into one category or group. Everyone is different, and in each culture there
will always be a variety of different people. Even if some or most people
practice a certain aspect of that culture, it does not mean that everyone does.
This was when Saaid brought up that white girls in America love pumpkin spiced
lattes and UGG boots, which was pretty funny actually. I don’t really even like
pumpkin spiced lattes though, and I haven’t worn UGG boots since 8th
grade, so I guess it just goes to show that you can’t believe every stereotype
you see.
