Marissa TS#7

For my seventh tutoring session with Felix, we did a listening exercise. I had him listen to a TED talk from 2006 about the evolution of the internet and blogging and how it affected language. I watched along with him and took notes of parts that I thought he might difficult (e.g. idioms, more metaphorical language, etc.), while pausing every few minutes to ask a couple comprehension questions. When we finished, I asked him to summarize the main ideas in his own words and tell me his thoughts. I had a couple follow up questions about how the internet had affected culture in the years since then, and whether he thought the predictions of the speaker had come true. This naturally evolved into speaking practice while I asked him to explain his views and I shared my own. I also went back over the notes I took and asked him if he understood a few of the idiomatic phrases. Some he did know, and the others he was mostly able to figure out from context.
