Matt Zanis TS#8

For my final session with David, I figured we would once again tackle an elaboration activity to enhance his writing. This time we focused on what is called action chains. These chains involve taking a simple action, such as “I tumbled forward” and making it something like “I caught my toe in the carpet, fell forward, and tumbled down the stairs.” This takes a simple action and turns it into a more vivid picture. I chose this because it allows David a lot of flexibility in creating his chains, rather than being a very structured assignment. Following my explanation of action chains, I gave David five simple action statements and had him turn them into chains. I was very impressed with what he came up with and let him choose a YouTube video to watch as a reward. Lastly, we spent another ten minutes going over some math problems at the request of David’s mother.
