Juliana TS#6

My second tutee's name is Inhwa Kim. Our first tutoring session was on June 17th in Black Dog Cafe in Railroad Square. This session mainly consisted of us introducing ourselves and getting to know each other. I asked her questions about herself and how she ended up in Tallahassee. She said she came here to learn English. She did not work while she stayed here but she did have a job back home in South Korea.
She lived in Tallahassee for little over a year and in that time she joined a church in which she met her boyfriend who is also from South Korea. I wondered if the church she went to consisted of mainly Koreans or if she happened to meet one of the few other Koreans in her congregation. I did not ask because I couldn't decide if it was rude or prying. After spending some time with Inhwa in the proceeding weeks, I realized she is the last person to think something like that would be rude. She is a very forward and blunt person.
In this session, I also formed an assessment on Inhwa's English skills. I gave her a couple tests I had prepared on grammar and writing. I also observed her speaking habits and where she faulted. She too was also fairly fluent and could communicate pretty well. She needed help with pronunciation and some phrasing. She would sometimes say words in the wrong order in a sentence but I understood her.
