Demery CP-4

For our fourth meeting, we focused on expectations within the classroom. Our cultural representation consisted of Hassan (from Saudi Arabia), Ankita (from India) and the three TEFL students (all hailing from America). So, as you can assume, we had a wide range of scholastic expectations. Hassan stated that most of his classes were solely lecture based, so any form of student interaction was not encouraged. Meanwhile, Ankita told us about a strange teaching method that she encountered. Apparently, if you asked to go to the bathroom, the teacher would make you stand on your desk for the rest of class. This enforced two things: that no one would dare interrupt the teachers speech, and no student would dare enter the classroom without using the restroom first. Despite these discrepancies, there were definitely some similarities within our group. Ankita and Hassan both experienced a schooling system where boys were separated from girls. Hassan and I held some religious rituals in common, as we both went to theocratic elementary schools.
