The third tutoring session with
David went a little differently as Matthew’s tutor was unable to make it that
day. Therefore, instead of doing our normal hour session, I spent a half hour
tutoring both David and Matthew. For this session, Mrs. Hong brought a reading
comprehension book that she wanted the boys to work out of. We started by selecting
a passage for Davis to read. I had him read the passage out loud to me so that
I could check pronunciation and listen to see if he came across any words that
he was unfamiliar with. I’d also stop him at the end of every paragraph to ask
a few comprehension questions myself. Once we finished the passages we went
over the questions in the book. I allowed David to answer the questions himself
and if he got the question wrong I had him search the passage and point out to
me where the supporting information for the actual answer was. I then repeated
this exercise for Matthew’s thirty minutes.
