For my second tutoring session with
David, I decided to stress elaboration as this seemed to be something that he
really needed to work on, as most have his answers were of the one-word
variety. To start, I had him write about his day so far, but instead of just
asking him to write about his day, I instructed him to write about five
specific things to try and stay away from generalities. After David finished
that, I allowed him to select a short YouTube video from one of the channel’s
he told me he liked. Following the video, I gave him a list of ten adjectives I
wanted him to use in sentences to help him describe the animal in the video.
Once he finished that, I had him select another animal to compare and contrast
the two, again using the list of adjectives provided. All in all, I think it
went well and I’ll start the next session off similarly to the way I started
this one to check for comprehension.
