For my fourth tutoring session with
David, I decided to switch the focus over to grammar as I was very impressed
with his reading comprehension from our last session. The lesson was based upon
finding the subject and predicate in a sentence. I started with a simple
explanation of both and then followed that up with example sentences that we
broke down together. After about ten minutes of doing this we moved on to a
game to help reinforce this topic. The game had a style similar to Who Wants to be a Millionaire and
bounced back in forth between sentences in which David had to either identify
the subject or the predicate in the sentence. He seemed to understand the
complex fairly quickly, although he struggled when the predicate didn’t
directly follow the subject. We finished with a quiz that he did himself to
check his comprehension, and I plan on reviewing the subject with him next
session.
