Matt Zanis TS#14

My next tutoring session was with Federico’s sister, who was slightly older and going into tenth grade as compared to Federico going into sixth. She was prepping for her PSAT, and seeing how her mother said she struggled with writing as well, to help I found an example writing portion that I found on college board. Standardized tests can be very intimidating, and I hoped that by walking her through an example portion she would become more comfortable with it. We began the session by first going over tips for approaching the test, mainly answering the questions as you go rather than reading the whole essay first and reviewing punctuation the night before the test. After going through the tips, I asked her if she had any concerns herself and we discussed those. After that we went through every question in the exam. I would say she got about 80% right, and most that she got wrong she got right on the next guess. Most of her errors involved incorrect punctuation, an aspect I would focus on in the next section.
