For my last classroom observation
things went a little differently, I had originally signed up for Leslie Wagner’s
group 3 speaking class. However, because of a religious holiday, between her and
Kyle, there were only three students. After talking about it shortly, Leslie
and Kyle decided to move the class to the lounge downstairs and play a game
called Hoopla. While this wasn’t by
any means a normal speaking class I liked the addition of the game a lot.
Students were given cards and had to describe to everyone what their cards were
while we tried to guess. This seemed like a really good way to help expand
their vocabulary and also double as a listening exercise for the students. It
also took a lot of pressure off the students as I was an informal setting and
allowed them to try and incorporate words that they may not have tried to use
in a more highly monitored setting.
