Matt Zanis CO#2

For my second class room observation, I sat in on Kyle Kaminski’s group 3 composition class. He started the class off with a short journal exercise, I liked this a lot because it seemed to do a good job of getting the students settled and ready for the day’s main exercise. In this particular class, they were comparing and contrasting a news report and the article that accompanied it. I found this very interesting as when I designed a similar lesson plan I only considered comparing different ideas or objects, not comparing video and text. He finished the day’s work by having the students pull out an essay they had been working on, seeing as this was their first draft, just like how we were taught in class, most of the corrections he made on the student’s paper’s was content based. I spoke with him briefly after class and liked how he broke up the essay into a few week process so that the students wouldn’t feel overwhelmed.
