This tutoring session with Inhwa took place on the same day as the last one. We decided to stick with the double sessions in one day with a short break in between. For this second half, we focused on pronunciation.
Much like I did with Soongyu, I had Inhwa read a list of minimal pairs. Unlike Soongyu, Inhwa was not palpably uncomfortable doing so. She did not ask me to read them first. She read through all of them, many with mistakes, then we went over them together. I would read one pair and she repeated after me. For those that she had trouble pronouncing, I would repeat them again to prompt her to do the same. We kept repeating that pair until she got it right. Inhwa also had trouble with L vs R and I vs EE. I noticed one of the most difficult words for her to say was "learn". I think the double vowels threw her off. Also this word contains both an L and an R, which are problem sounds for many Korean speakers.
Once I noticed which specific sounds she had trouble with, I created my own list of minimal pairs using those sounds. We went over this list in the same way we went over the others however this one took a bit longer because we spent more time on each pair.
