To start the lesson, I had Inhwa watch a clip from the show Seinfeld which happened to be very idiom heavy. After the clip had played, I asked Inhwa some general comprehension questions. She was able to answer some but others she could not. She knew it was because of idioms. She at least was able to recognize that she didn't understand because the characters were using words and phrases that did not have literal meaning.
We then went over some of the idioms used in the show like "The cat is out of the bag", "a little bird told me", "reach for the stars", "put your money where your mouth is", etc.
I then used an online archive full of american idioms found on this website:http://www.learnenglishfeelgood.com/americanidioms/. These idioms were catalogued in alphabetical order so Inhwa and I switched off picking a letter at random and reading through a handful of idioms on that page. I chose to read the ones that I found to be most confusing. After explaining some of them, Inhwa would ask why we use that specific phrase. Some idiom origins were easy to explain while others I found completely inexplicable.
