The fifth cultural workshop was an introduction to the CIES students's final projects. Kyle explained that they were to work in groups to create a poster board divided into three parts. Those three parts could be organized in any way the students desired, however, he did provide two main examples for the students to follow. The poster was supposed to represent all the information we shared in the cultural workshops thus far. They had to compare the culture characteristics of their countries with each other and with American culture. The TEFL students were there to help them brainstorm on how to organize their board as well as provide any answers or information about American culture that the students may need.
I worked in a group with Hassan and Ankita, a gentleman from Saudi Arabia and a woman from India. They spent most of the time deciding how they would organize their poster. They finally decided that they would split the poster into three characteristics and then under those three they would talk about each of the three cultures. They were dead set on stereotypes as one of the sections. The other two were still being debated by the time the workshop had finished.
