Juliana CW#4

For this workshop, we went over stereotypes and generalizations. Again, my group was moved around slightly and we had different members. Because of this, I do not remember all of their names, unfortunately. One Saudi student recognized a stereotype about his own country which is that everyone is rich  because the country is full of oil. Another student from South America said a stereotype about her culture is that people are loud and expressive, which she then recognized as fairly accurate, however it is not fair to assume that about everyone. I pointed out that many people think Americans are lazy and fat, especially Europeans. The term "Fat/Lazy American" is a popular term. Obviously this is not entirely true, just like the rest of the stereotypes.

Both CIES students pointed out generalizations about the spiritual beliefs in their countries. People think that every Saudi is muslim and every Hispanic person is Catholic. As an American, I could not relate to this. Our country is very spiritually diverse so I have never experience assumptions from others about my spiritual beliefs.
