For this reading lesson, I centered the lesson on One Fish, Two Fish by Dr. Seuss. I read the whole book with her reading some of the words and sentences too. Then, I got out paper and colored pencils and asked her to draw some fish. She got really into drawing them and ended drawing a whole ocean scene. Then we talked about what each animal was and I spelled it out for her. Then she wrote a short sentence about each animal, for example: Fish is sad. Shark is happy. (The shark was about to eat the fish in her drawing) These sentences were in her own words and then I helped her spell the words and she wrote them out.
