Demery TP-14

On July 28th, I met with Astin. Astin's mother had bought him a new workbook and Astin was very excited to do something new. The workbook may have been below his level. Some of the 1rst grade workbooks that I've done with him previously were much more advanced than what he was attempting in the new workbook. I think it was a refresher course for Astin, which was good, because he had a long day of tutoring ahead of him. We worked on silent vowels. I reminded Astin that when you place an O next to an A, the sound is a long O. This was simple for him, yet he seemed to not retain this concept or he was simply not interested in applying it. We did the exercise that featured the OA words, and he could easily read these sounds out loud. Yet, when we read these words in later reading comprehension exercises, he struggled with them.
