Martin-TS#11

I met with my Hispanic tutee again, and we finished reading Kattekoppen. He read well by himself for about a page, but then became tired/bored, and his comprehension and pronunciation declined rapidly after that. To help remedy the problem, we did shadow reading, where I would read part of the sentence, and then he would read after me. This second half of the story wasn't any harder than the first half, just my tutee wasn't really feeling up to intensive reading the day we met. We got through the story with 15 minutes to spare, and instead of going over the writing (I could tell it wouldn't be productive), I let him talk about the story. He shared some about his dream to join the army, and that reading this (rather brutal) story didn't change his opinion of the profession. There was a lot of symbolism (like the Kattekoppen candy) that he didn't understand so we may discuss that next time along with going over the writing sample from the last time we met.
