This final cultural workshop wasn’t really a workshop, but
rather a chance for the CIES students in the speaking classes to display their
presentations to others at the Center and show what they had talked about and
learned throughout the workshops. Sofia, Demery, and I all met with Hassan and
Ankita outside of class at a couple points in order to help them complete their
presentation. They, as well as the other CIES students in the workshop, set up
their board in the conference room, allowing for an academic fair type
environment. Other CIES students, TEFL students, as well as CIES faculty and
staff walked around the room and listened to the students explain the
components of their presentation. This gave them a chance to elaborate on what
they had chosen to include on the visual display, such as explaining why
certain stereotypes were incorrect and why they chose certain parts of their
identities as important (e.g. Muslim, mother, polyglot, “single”).
