Juliana TS#3

I was not able to meet with my tutee, Soongyu, again until July 6th because she was moving apartments the week before. We decided to meet at the FSU library in a study room. Because it had been so long, I decided to review some of the difficult terms from our previous section from the listening activity that she did.
We then moved on to American culture, specifically humor and idioms. I asked Soongyu what she thought about America humor. She said she understood some of it but not all and that it is different from Korean humor in that it is often subtle. Americans use sarcasm frequently and she cannot always pick up on it.
I introduced her to some common joke types in America. For example, "Yo Momma" jokes, Dumb Blonde jokes, "That's what she said" jokes, dead baby jokes, and a few more.
Soongyu was particularly disturbed by the dead baby jokes (as am I). I'm pretty sure this discussion convinced her that Americans are disgusting.
We also talked about American idioms and went over several of them (too many to list). I found a website full of common idioms which I used as a source. Here it is:http://www.learnenglishfeelgood.com/americanidioms/
