This tutoring session with Djamila was really fun. I picked her up and brought her to my house to make pizza together. Since she had taught me an African dish the last time we met, it was my turn to host her and share an American recipe. Apparently, she didn’t really like American pizza because it is so greasy. The pizza they have in Burkina Faso is a lot better, with gruyere cheese and higher quality ingredients, but she didn’t know how to make it. We rolled out the dough together and cut up mozzarella and vegetables and chicken. She liked my version of pizza a lot more than what she had tasted in American restaurants. After we cooked and ate together, we got down to business. I got out a TOEFL exam study book. She decided to work on the reading section as that is what she struggles with most. She worked through a practice exam and then we went through the answers together.
