Gabriela CP#6

I’ve spent a lot of time with Djamila this summer, as we usually hang out before or after the actual tutoring session. One of these times, after tutoring, I helped Djamila pay her phone bill. It was something I’ve never really thought about before, but it gave me a new perspective on a mundane aspect of life in America. She had real difficulties understanding the automated system and inputting all the right information from her credit card. I was able to help her through it and hopefully now she will know how to navigate the system for next time. After that, I took her grocery shopping to Publix. It was interesting to learn about the different fruits and vegetables we have here and comparing that to what they have in Burkina Faso, as well as hearing from her what it is like to go grocery shopping there. Every time I spend time with Djamila, I end up learning more about Burkina Faso and see aspects of life in America in a new light.
