My final session with Julio went well. I hoped to quickly reinforce
the prepositional vocabulary lesson, so I gave him the exact same worksheet we had
worked on the day before. Again, it went a little smoother, but I wanted him to
know the answer immediately without a word bank. I gave him a similar worksheet
but for a lower level. He went quickly through it, and I was happy he was
picking it up. I still wanted him to use the advanced prepositions he probably had
not ever tried to use before, so I asked him to write one sentence for each of
the five prepositions he had the most difficulty identifying. This was great,
but I wanted to get him thinking about the subject/verb agreement before our
session ended. I had an error correction assignment that I coached him through.
At this point he could identify the verb, and the error was always in the wrong
tense, so we got through this rather quickly and it built confidence for him.
He knew most parts of speech pretty well now, so the last thing I wanted to
leave him with was a refresher on articles. I gave a quick lesson on countable
nouns and when to use which article, and gave him a quick quiz to check his
comprehension. It was the last lesson and he was incredibly grateful for my
help over the last several weeks.
