A couple weeks back I observed Mr. Kaminski's Speech class. It was an upper level class, I think he labeled it high intermediate in level, and they spoke English very casually throughout the class. After rereading my notes I think I wrote the word "casual" enough times to make it feel like less and less of a word as I read it time after time. But that's just how the class felt. Everything was taught about English yet through English at the same time. These students have a very firm grasp of how to convey their emotions, their stories, and what they need to say without a hitch.
I think the biggest thing I gained from this observation was how to correct a person's English without being rude. Mr. Kaminski would listen to what his students were saying then would let them finish their thought, whether or not they made a mistake in their talking. After they had said what they wanted to say, he would backtrack and remind them what they said and how they could have said it better. I thought this was a polite and effective method of English speaking correction.
