On July 8, I met with Astin for our fifth tutoring session. I learned from our meeting on thursday that he really enjoys making sentence mazes. This is exactly what it sounds like: in order to make one, you have to make a maze, write an incomplete sentence in the maze, and then fill in the blanks. We tried making one together on thursday, but we ran out of time before we could finish it. Yet, I kept this activity in mind for our session the following day. I spent the night looking for a basic reading comprehension worksheet; I found a really easy one about going to the parade. I took two sentences from the reading and created a maze around them. I left some of the words out for Astin to fill in. He was so excited when he saw that I had made a maze for him! This was also a good incentive for Astin; he knew that if he finished the reading, he would get to finish the maze.
