Demery CO-2

I observed Professor Rios' Reading 3A class. The atmosphere in this class is so inviting, and I have to hand it to Professor Rios.  His teaching style is so welcoming and open, I would observe this class again. He began class with some simple discussion about everyone's fourth of July; he made sure that every person in the class received some time to speak. After the opening, he spent time reviewing the format for the midterm. He was incredibly clear in his instruction for how to prepare for the test.

The main lesson was an extensive reading lesson. This course material for the day was Judy Blume's Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Professor Rios created something akin to a role-play scenario, asking the students to imagine that they were in Starbucks reading this book. He utilized this scenario to recap what the students had read previously. Together, the whole class read chapter four. I hated this book in middle school, but the lesson was still really interesting. Although the lesson was extensive, instead of intensive, I feel like I learned a lot.
