Demery TP-7

I met with Astin on July 1st at his house. Thomas and I talked about the fact that we both were teaching Astin reading intensive lessons. So, I printed out some writing worksheets. When I got to Astin’s, his mother told me she had checked out some books for us to read. I didn’t know how to say that I had a different plan for the day, so Astin and I began the reading. The book was for a level 3 reading level, which was somewhat hard for Astin. Halfway through the book, I could feel him getting tired. Astin has a lot of trouble phonetically sounding out words. He speaks very well, and can communicate very well. Yet, he does have some problems with reading words and speaking them out loud. I resorted back to making it into a game by having him write down every new word he encountered. This slowed us down a bit, but I think it helped keep Astin engaged with finishing the book.
