I met my second tutee, Sylvie, for the first time on Saturday,
June 25th. Sylvie is from
West Africa, her native language is French, and she is in group 4 at CIES. She is learning English to get a degree in
Economics at a college in Illinois. During
the needs assessment it was determined that she needs work on pronunciation,
fluency in reading, and comprehension/application for reading. She also needs to work on learning economics
terms in English. During this session we
worked on her reading homework and understanding how to better summarize and answer
inference questions, even I found the work challenging and I am a native
speaker. Overall, I think she had a
better grasp by the end of the session and I really enjoyed working with
her. We will meet next Saturday and go
over her presentation homework and work on pronunciation.
